What is research? Take the chance to find out

11 March 2010

Many people are aware that research is undertaken on a range of things but who does it and what is involved?

The Glasgow Clinical Research Facility is having an Open Day tomorrow, Friday, March 12th, to give the public and healthcare professionals an opportunity to find out more about what research actually is.

Everyone is invited to attend the event which aims to inform attendees about how people can be involved in research, the facilities, staff and resources available and how researchers are offered support over a wide variety of specialities.

There will be various stands and staff available to provide additional information and a tour of the facilities with demonstrations of some of the investigations performed at the Facility have been organised.

Shona McDermott, Assistant Director Education and Training hopes that anyone who wants information on the work undertaken at the Glasgow Clinical Research Facility will pop into the open day.

She said: "The people we want to come along are members of the public who want more information on what research involves. Many people have a fear of research and we want to show that it is not something to be afraid of and explain how we rely on the public to participate in research projects.

"We also want to encourage Healthcare professionals and Researchers to pop in. This would allow them to see the level of support they could expect from the Clinical Research Facility and the range of research studies that we have previously supported, and currently support. "
