Nexxus Launches Mentoring Service
02 August 2010
A lot of people have gone further than they thought they would because someone else thought they could... (Anon)
The practice of mentoring goes back a long way – (here’s the mythology bit!) Mentor was a friend of Odysseus, and when Odysseus left for the Trojan War he placed Mentor in charge of his son, Telemachus, to guide the young man in times of difficulty.
How often have you found yourself thinking, ‘I wish I had known that earlier.’ It's often that little piece of knowledge or advice that means the difference between seizing an opportunity and its passing you by.
This issue can become a real constraint when you are setting up a new venture or even running a successful enterprise. The demands of the project or company and the need to meet short term goals can blind you to the opportunities that lie ahead.
But here’s the good news – you are not the first person to think this. And even better news - there is a possible solution – asking someone who has been there, seen it and got the t-shirt!
A number of the successful entrepreneurs in the Nexxus community have agreed to share their knowledge through the new Nexxus ‘Water Cooler’ Mentoring Service.
The aim of this service is to provide guidance on business issues – from little niggling questions to big, overarching business challenges - over a quick telephone call or cup of coffee. The mentors, whose hindsight can become your foresight, are providing this on a pro-bono basis so that the mentees and their ventures can grow, for the benefit of the entire life sciences community.
Sound interesting? Are you looking for a mentor? Or perhaps you'd like to offer your services as one? Either way, send an email to Judy Rudd at j.rudd@nexxusscotland.com in the first instance and we’ll get in touch to take things forward.
