Moredun Scientific Secure Licence to Handle Bluetongue Virus in Containment Level 3 facility

08 March 2010

Moredun Scientific has been successfully approved by the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to handle Bluetongue virus in its Containment Level 3 facility.

The approval enables the company to provide services to animal health companies involved in the development and manufacture of Bluetongue virus vaccines. Areas of expertise include testing of cell banks for the presence of adventitious agents.

The spread of Bluetongue virus is an ongoing concern for the livestock industry and the development of vaccines providing protection against the different virus serotypes is a current focus for the animal health industry.

John Murray, Head of Operations at Moredun Scientific, commented: "We are very pleased to have received this approval which allows us to use our GLP/GMP qualified Containment Level 3 facility to support our clients working with Bluetongue virus."

Moredun Scientific is a contract research organization providing research and testing services to the animal health, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The Company was created in 1988 as the commercial arm of the Moredun Foundation.
