Three Primary 7 City of Glasgow schoolchildren and three adults have collected £100 gift vouchers for their prizewinning entries showing in a visual format what life science means to them. Prizes were presented at the third Annual Nexxus Life Science Award event to celebrate life science in the West of Scotland on 7 November 2007.
Introducing the competition to the assembled guests at the Awards evening in the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow, Kate Rowley, manager of Nexxus, explained : "Life science is such a wide area involving everything from diagnostics to therapeutics, from pharmaceuticals to medical devices, from contract research to much, much more that we thought it would be fun to ask people to give us a visual interpretation of what they thought of as life science.
She continued : "We received everything from cartoons to highly technical pieces of artwork with the eventual winners being chosen by the prize sponsors - Byrne Recruitment, Diligence Risk Management, Insurance Management Group, Kennedys Patent, Shepherd + Wedderburn and the University of Glasgow."
All of the entries can be seen on the Nexxus website at http://www.nexxusscotland.com/news/life-sci_visions_competition/life-sci_visions_entries and will be on display to the public for a short period in Science Street at the Glasgow Science Centre with the winning entries being shown on the plasma screen at the top of Buchanan Street for a week from 9 November thanks to the assistance of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau.
