AvantiCell applies know-how and proprietary techhnology to the culture of mammalian cells, allowing delivery of a range of cell biology products and services.

The Company's founding principle is that advances in cell culture technology enable the development of physiologically-relevant alternatives to animal testing in research and drug discovery.

Technological research and development is focused on primary cell culture, on cell cryopreservation methodology, and on cell scaffold innovation for 3D culture in assay-friendly formats.

Products & Services

AvantiCell's service offering and product portfolio are targeted on processes and events important in the aetiology or treatment of major human diseases, with a particular focus on cancer. The Company's technology has found application in testing of novel biomaterials, in the evaluation of potential therapeutics from novel sources, such as marine microbes and tropical rainforests, and in the quality control of traditional medicines.

AvantiCell's services range from physiologically-relevant cell-based screening through cell population analysis to in vitro system development, customised to the client's requirements. Amongst the Company's customised culture systems is the unique primary bovine culture model, which offers a system for the study of transport across epithelial monolayers, and in particular the passage of environmental or diaetary xenobiotics or other active molecules into milk.

AvantiCell products enable the customer to perform cell-based analysis in physiologically-relevant culture systems without the need for cell culture experience or complicated laboratory equipment. Products take the form of user-friendly cell-based assay kits using a 96-well format that incorporate AvantiCell's 'off-the-freezer-shelf' technology. Assays based on a range of cell types are available including human cell types relavant to major diseases.

AvantiCell's ability to obtain, store, grow and differentiate primary cell cultres from human and animal sources is delivered in a growing range of cell culture products.

Skills

AvantiCell's services and products are underpinned by many years' experience in the culture of mammalian cells. This expertise, couple with entrepreneurial drive, has allowed the Company to be successful in securing a number of technology R&D awards and to be recognised by a growing number of international organisations. This is particularly the case in the area of Traditional Medicines, where AvantiCell is working with organisations in China and Malaysia to provide the much needed scientific proof of bioactivity for complex mixtures where there is a strong clinical record of efficacy.
