Innovation for Profit – A Route to Competitive Success Conference

Businesses all across Scotland are turning to high calibre graduates in order to help boost their competitiveness and productivity. Through the UK-wide Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme, part funded by the Government, businesses are increasingly teaming up with academic institutions enabling access to skills and expertise to aid development of their company.

Jim Mather, Minister for Enterprise, Energy and Tourism will open proceedings.

What can a KTP do for my company?

Thriving organisations wishing to innovate, expand or improve their performance can benefit from a KTP. Working with graduates and academics of the highest standards, companies can access expertise they might otherwise have not been able to afford.

By participating in a Knowledge Transfer Partnership, organisations can:

  • Access highly qualified graduates to spearhead new projects
  • Access experts who can take the business forward
  • Develop innovative solutions to help the business grow
  • Develop the business for today's market
  • Increase the business's competitive advantage
  • Improve performance and business operations
  • Increase profitability

Each KTP is tailored towards individual company needs and can be used for a variety of projects including product design, manufacturing, technical innovation, business processes (including IT and social sciences) and commercial development.

On average, the business benefits that can be expected from a single KTP project include an increase of over £227,000 in annual profits before tax, increased investment in plant and machinery and the creation of three or more jobs.

Currently, on average annual KTP project costs are around £60,000. SMEs can expect to contribute a third of the project costs at approx. £20,000 per annum with large companies (more than 250 employees worldwide) paying around £30,000 per annum.
