Mid-Summer Debate and BBQ: My Health, My Wellbeing, Your problem...

Who or what is to blame for today's ever increasing health issues - obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes...  Is it down to the individual's responsibility? Does society play a part in influencing our health or does our genetic make-up determine our lifestyle?

This year's Nexxus Summer Debate will bring together 3 experts to debate what are the predeterming factors in our nation's evergrowing health problems. Each speaker will present the issue from their own particular angle and put forward one of the following statements  'I am the captain of my fate'; 'I am the product of society or 'I am the reflection of my genes'.

Which speaker will you agree with, what are your views on the subject and will you change your opinion after listening to the debate?

Through the use of the interactive keypad technology, the audience will be able to indicate their stance on the issue at the beginning of the evening and again at the end after they have listened to all speakers. Members of the audience will be able to put forward their own point of view on the issue and pose questions, therefore we're assured of a very lively and entertaining debate on these issues!

The Chair for the evening is Professor Chris Packard, R&D Director, North Glasgow University Hospitals NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and the speakers will be announced shortly.

Once the debate concludes (and we have worked up an appetite) we will then make our way to the cafe area for a free BBQ (vegetarian selection included) on the terrace overlooking the glorious River Clyde. A complimentary drink will be provided and bar facilities will be available thereafter for you to purchase drinks of your choice.  (NB should the Scottish weather not prove up to the occasion, we can move indoors and still enjoy the view so don't let a little rain put you off!)

The evening will commence with registration at 6pm and is guaranteed to be a great way to celebrate summer.  Parking will be free of charge within the Glasgow Science Centre car park and the venue is easily reached by public transport too, see below for details.  Cloakroom facilities are also provided within the venue.

Look forward to seeing you there!
