Horizons in Biomedicine Series: Beyond the Horizon

Nanotechnology
for healthcare- what lies in store for nanotechnology in healthcare?

New life, new limbs: Limb regeneration - in future will we be able to grow our own tissue, bone or replacement limbs?

Machines in man - can there be such a thing as a real bionic man- using human advancement technologies to replace normal human functions?

We will bring together speakers from each of these very different but increasingly important areas of research to share their ideas on what futuristic prospects could develop in these fields.

What can we expect, what do we hope to achieve and what is to be gained in respect of the health of the nation should we achieve these goals?  This 'Beyond the Horizon' event will provide a foresight into each area of research for the next 20, 30 or even 50 years and share with you the goals of our current and future researchers.

This event will be chaired by Professor William Stimson, Chair of Immunology, SIPBS, University of Strathclyde. Speaking on the subject of Nanotechnology for healthcare is Richard Moore, Manager, Nanomedicine and Life Sciences, Institute of Nanotechnology; on the subject of 'Limb Regeneration' will be Dr Matthew J Dalby, Research Fellow, IBLS - Infection and Immunity, University of Glasgow and speaking on the subject of 'Machines in Man' is Dr David Hay, RCUK Fellow, MRC Centre for Regenerative Medicine, University of Edinburgh.
