- To celebrate life science research excellence, the continued investments being made in creating world class research facilities and successful company growth in - originally - the West of Scotland and now, since the setting up of a second Nexxus network hub in Edinburgh - the East of Scotland also
- To recognise the contribution of life sciences to Scotland in terms of direct and indirect economic benefit to the area; resultant improvements in the health of the nation; the enhancement of the area's international reputation and its regeneration through growth of the high tech life science sector
- To encourage the life sciences sector to be all it can be in the future
