When Nexxus was originally founded in 2003 to promote and support research excellence, innovation and knowledge transfer within the life science community in the West of Scotland, initial funding was secured from Scottish Enterprise Glasgow, the University of Glasgow and Glasgow City Council, with match funding from the European Union (ERDF). Additional funding was subsequently provided by a number of other organisations, thereby reflecting Nexxus's success in engaging with the entire life science community in the West of Scotland.
Funding bodies since 2008
Currently however, Nexxus is funded to promote and supports research excellence, innovation and knowledge transfer within the life science community across the entire central belt of Scotland. Funders are :-
The European Regional Development Fund; SEEKIT; Scottish Enterprise; the Edinburgh Science Triangle*; the Glasgow:Edinburgh Collaboration; the Universities of Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian, Strathclyde and the West of Scotland; East Dunbartonshire, Glasgow City, North Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire Councils; and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
(*The Edinburgh Science Triangle includes the University of Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt University, Moredun Research Institute, Roslin Foundation, NHS Lothian, Scottish Enterprise, Edinburgh Technopole, Heriot-Watt Research Park, Pentlands Science Park, Roslin BioCentre and the councils of The City of Edinburgh, Midlothian, West Lothian and East Lothian.)
