The West of Scotland has a thriving life science research and company base, one of the largest in Europe. In excess of 2,800 researchers, working in four universities, and a number of research institutes, working in interdisciplinary science/clinical collaborative networks. The West of Scotland is home to 180 life science companies, including diagnostics, therapeutics, medical devices, contract research and manufacturing, with a total number of employees in the sector in excess of 8000. Excellent research links with NHS Trust hospitals in the west of Scotland further enhance this critical mass. Nexxus supports lifescience excellence in the West of Scotland and strengthens the links between these world leading research institutions and a rapidly growing industry sector, which includes many successful indigenous companies and high profile foreign inward investment.

Nexxus provides a means of connection (from the latin nexus) across all elements of the community, facilitating communication, knowledge sharing and collaboration between organisations involved in lifescience related activity. Nexxus raises the profile of life science in Scotland by promoting and celebrating local success and talent.

Nexxus is guided by representatives fromall aspects of the life science community in the West of Scotland, including: universities, further education colleges, NHS Trusts, professional service suppliers and life science industry representatives.
